Homework challenge #3 garage band

One of the homework challenges are makeing a song on garage band. I thought I love music so I can do that. I was inspierd by Guns n´ Roses intro of sweet child o´ mine. I love what I have created on garage band. I wish you could listen to it but we can't connect it to this blog post. I showed Active thinking because I thought how I wanted it to sound like.

Homework challenge #5

We went through my closet and toys. I found some clothes and toys that I can give away. I gave some stuff to my friend and she loved them. I also donated some clothes and toys to the salvation army. We also went through our towel cupboard and found some old towels, we donated them to the SPCA so they could use them for the animals there. Here are some photos. I showed community because I helped my local SPCA by giving them some towels.

My Favourite Book From Term 1

Drama is about a teenager called Callie. Callie she likes theatre and acting. She volunteers to be apart of the stage crew for the play. She meets twin brothers Jesse and Justin that both love singing and acting but ones a bit shy. Callie becomes best friends with them. Her friend is encharge off all the costumes for the play. The school dance is coming up Callie went with Jesse, but he runs away. I really loved this book I rate it 10/10.

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Trash by Andy Mulligan

I found this novel okay because was not the best book I had ever read and it is starting to get a little bit boring.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.

National Standard this covers

  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • using several pieces of information to make inferences
      using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes
    • I can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex words.

I can use strategies to analyse ideas and information and to reflect critically on the meaning I am gaining from my reading. (Eg: I can think about the meaning of the information and ideas and how this fits with what I think)

Setting up assembly merit post #5 leadership

We have assemblys on Mondays, I volunteered to help. The job is to set up the chairs for the parents and seniors. It was quite hard because we put the chairs in rows of 6 and 3 chairs wide. The reason it was hard is we kept having to move them over or back. I made sure they were all straight by going up and down all the rows.

I showed Active thinking because I did not take down lots of chairs I took down the right amount of chairs so I did not have to put some back.

Peer Mediation Week 10 Merit Post #5

Today it was an inside lunch and Morning tea so I didn´t do my Peer Mediation but I did wet day monitors because the year 6´s (who usually do it) are on camp. Being a wet day monitor is very similar to a Peer Mediator, they both guide people. All the year 4 rooms are a different noise level room 6 is a silent zone. The problem was that I had to tell people to be quiet multiple times because they kept talking. I was drawing with Annabella on her scratchy pad thing that when you scratched it the black stuff came of and revealed lots of different colours it was so fun I was still keeping track of the kids in room 6 as well.

I showed Respect because I was aware that the concrete was wet and I walked so I did not slip while going over there. Also because it was a silent zone and I respected that other people wanted no noise.

Peer Mediation Week 8 merit post #4

On Tuesday I was accidently late for my Peer Mediation. I was at the library with Dabok reading books. I was 10 minutes late and I felt really bad. I ran really quickly to the classroom to find Tanika,I didn´t see Daniel or Jade there so I asked if she had seen them Tanika said that Daniel had said to her he did not care. So I just did it with Dabok and Tanika, While we were walking around we didn´t see any problems or no one came up to us and said that they had a problem. So it was all good 😊.

I definitely learned a lesson, always keep track of the time.  I showed Active Thinking because I got Tanika and Dabok to help me.

Lake Heron homework challenge #4 merit

On Saturday me and my dad went to lake heron for the night lake heron is a beautiful place. First we went to the fishing shop to get some fishing lures they had hard,big,squishy,small,sparkly and all other ones I went to look at the gooey ones they were so stretchy and soft there was on with blue glitter that I was playing witch I thought the glitter was in the fish but I was wrong the glitter got all over me. Mum went to the supermarket and got the food off the list we had given her while we were at the fishing shop.  We got food that was light to carry but gave us lots of energy.  We got a couple of packs of food that you just added water to so we didn't have to carry alot of ingredients.

It takes about an hour and 30 minutes to get there from we were driving on the gravel the car got really dirty and there was a big cloud of dust behind us. We walked to our campsite we have this certain spot that we go to. We set up the 2 man tent and we had a little fish,then we had spaghetti and sausages for dinner,apple pie for dessert and a couple of roasted marshmallows. Then we went to sleep we were about to play hangman on my whiteboard but the whiteboard pen ran out we were so disappointed . 

Day 2
 was a weird day because in the morning it was foggy then clear,foggy then clear,foggy then clear about 10 times. But it became beautiful in the end. We had pancakes for breakfast, chocolate and 2 marshmallows. We went fishing again I caught a big fish as big as my arm. Winding it in hurt my hand. My hands were so cold that I couldn't even hold the fish.  We put the fish back in the water so it can go back to its family. That's really all we did all day.

I showed  respect because I respected nature by bringing all our rubbish home with us and not putting it in the lake or leave it around the campsite. Also active thinking because we had to think about what we took in our bags because we had to carry it to our campsite. Lastly Community because I put the fish back so other people could catch it.

Merit post week #7 Walking Te Hapua

On Friday before morning tea my class (7/8LS) walks to Te Hapua. We eat morning tea on the way there, I walked with Tanika today. We go to Te Hapua to learn about robotics and coding. We have to cross halswall road which is a very busy road but we are lucky because we have parent helpers that help us cross the road, I listened very carefully to when to cross the road so we get across safely. On the way back I heard somebody yell out something I looked around and I'm pretty sure it was Mr Hillary.

I showed Excellence because I was listening to the parents and Mrs Stinson for when to cross the road also, walk respectfully because I was aware that we were not the only ones using the footpath.

Peer Mediation week 7 merit post #3

On Tuesday I did Peer Mediation with Daniel T and Tanika because jade didn´t turn up. We looked for Jade but we couldn´t find her so Tanika filled in. We went to the middle playground there were no problems,then the junior playground. A little girl came up to us and said that her friend was jumping of the tower. We asked the same girl what the problem was? and she said ¨she was scared of her friend that was jumping of. I said she will be fine see watch her jump off. The little girl jumped of I was like whoa!!! (even though she only jumped of a tower that was 1 meter high).

I showed Respect because I was aware that others were playing games around me. I also showed  Excellence  engorged the girl who was jumping off the tower and I supported the friend and said that her friend was alright.

Merit post week 6 #2 Choir

On Friday I go to Choir, we practised the songs and harmonising. One of the songs we practised was ¨What a wonderful world" We also sung Roar by Katy Perry.

I think I showed Respect by entering and exiting respectfully because I just walked in quietly. I also showed excellence by trying my best at singing and harmonising.

Homework challenge #2

On Saturday I made chocolate rough for my Nana and Pop. It was very fun,I made it all by myself I just needed some help for how long to put it in the oven for. I made a card and said thank you for letting me swim in their pool. I showed Active thinking by thanking them and giving them a gift. Here is a photo.

Games with minimal or no equipment

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

What equipment would we usually need to play these games.  
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
Invisible touch,,tag,dead ants,battleship,tag,hide and seek.balls,cones,bibs.Because we might not have much equipment to use.

My Strengths.  
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are listening because when the techers were explaining the rules I listened so I knew how to play.

My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are  getting involved because sometimes I just stand at the back and won´t try to tag people but most of the time I will.

leadership writing

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

One of the leadership traits is resilience it means you wont give give up no matter what. Edmond Hillary (the guy on the five dollar note) because he never gave up while climbing mt Everest even though it was really cold. I can show resilience this year because if the kids are hard to work with I wont give up.

Albert Einstein showed active thinking because he had to think creatively to invent stuff like the refrigerator and E=mc2 . I think active thinking is important to my leadership role because you need to listen to be able to help them. I will show that I'm listening and I will listen to them to help them. We also need to respect people.

Merit post week 6 #2 Run, Bike, Run

On Wednesday the Kauri team walked to Westlake. I was in a team with Tanika, Tanika did the first run, I did the bike ride and we both did the end run. On the last run I was so tired that Tanika had to hold my helmet because I forgot to take my helmet off. We came 5th out of all the teams in our age group. Our team name is A.T.G.N it stands for Amber, Tanika, Glenday, Nolan. After the race my mum brought down a chocolate donut and we halved it, it was delishious!

I showed Respect others differences because I cheered people on when they were struggling. I was also  being aware of others because I respected that there was also public using the park and try your best because I tried my best and I didn´t give up.

Merit post week 5 #1 Choir

On Friday at 8:45 I go to Choir we are doing the music festival. We are singing a lot of songs like winter wonderland and Africa and lots more. We do it with Mr Rule and Miss Harris. We got to sing Roar which was fun because I like that song.

The care values I showed were Active thinking by contributing to the group and Respect by listening to Mr Rule and Miss Harris.

Homework challenge: 20k bike ride

On Saturday I did a 20km bike ride around Mount Somers with my mum and the Laing family and another family. We biked through a field of long grass and a riverbed and lots of up hill.  I came 8th in the under 18 girls category.
 I showed  Excellence try your best because I kept saying I can´t do it but then I told myself I can do it. I also showed to be a positive role model because all the kids that were struggling I encouraged.

We had to bike up a lot of hills. At one point I thought I was going to fall off my bike because it was downhill  and very bumpy. We also biked past this building it had a hill sized pile of sand and all I wanted to do was go and climb up it. There was also this deer that was running in a paddock with a gate open because the racers had to come out there, the deer just jumped through a 20 by 20 cm gap in the fence and it was fine, it acted like nothing happened .

Peer Mediation week 5 merit post #2

Today Daniel T and I did Peer Mediation. We looked for Jade because she didn´t turn up but we could not find her so Daniel and I went to the middle playground to see if there were any problems. A year 3 girl came up to us and said she needed help. She said her friend Ella hit her so we went and found Ella. We introduced ourselves, we told them the rules you have to follow, they agreed. They told us each side of the story , we asked them what could you do to solve this. They said they could apologise to each other, they were happy with the idea and they went and played nicely together.

I think I showed Respect Listen respectfully because I was listening carefully and not fiddling with anything and also showed excellence try your best because I tried my best to help them and we succeeded. 

Peer Mediation week 4 merit post #1

Tuesday lunchtime I did Peer Mediation with Jade and Daniel T.  We were walking around the junior area so we could be seen if anyone needed help. We noticed a group of boys that were raising their voices they looked angry with each other. We asked them if they needed any help they said yes. First we told them the rules, if they wanted our help they needed to have turns at speaking, no interrupting and to not walk away while being helped, they agreed. We asked for each of them to tell us their side of the story but as they finished telling us what happened the bell rang.

 I showed Community because I was being aware of others because I was aware that the were mad and Respect because I listened respectfully to each of them.
